Beulah Rucker Museum

The building was originally built by Caroline Wiley, a young woman from Banks County who dreamed of becoming a teacher. After she graduated from high school, she enrolled in Knox Institute and earned a degree in education.
The museum and educational center was initially established in 1888 with the goal of serving the African-American community in the area. The founder of the museum was Beulah Rucker Oliver, who began teaching in a small wooden church school. After graduating from high school, she attended the Jeruel Institute in Athens and then went on to the Knox Institute. Beulah Rucker was an extraordinary woman who gave herself over 100 years of education.
